Dave Hopla is the assistant coach for player development for the New York Knicks. He is considered by many to be the top shooter in the world, regularly knocking down 495 out of 500 shots. He is the world-record holder for the most free throws in one minute with one ball and one passer, having made 26 shots out of 26 attempts. He also holds the record for the most NBA corner three-point shots having shot 18 of 18 with one ball and one passer in one minute. From the NBA three-point line (23 feet, 9 inches), Hopla made 16 out of 17 attempts with one ball and one passer in one minute. These records can be seen on YouTube.
Hopla has held shooting camps all over the world and regularly travels with the NBA for the NBA Basketball Without Borders program. After he joined the Toronto Raptors in 2006 as their shooting coach, Toronto increased its team shooting percentage every month, from 44.2 in November 2006 to 47.5 in January 2007. They also increased their three-point shooting percentage from 30 in November 2006 to 40 in January 2007. In 2007, Dave was hired by the Washington Wizards as an assistant coach for player development. During the 2007 season the Wizards shot a franchise best from the free-throw line (78.8%). While in Washington, the Wizards shot a franchise best from the free-throw line. Dave has worked with many NBA, college, and high school teams and players, including Carmelo Anthony, Raymond Felton, Jason Kidd, Chris Bosh, Gilbert Arenas, Ben Gordon, Rip Hamilton, Kevin Love, Brandon Jennings, Ray Allen, and Kobe Bryant, as well as several WNBA players, including Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird. Hopla resides in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, with his beautiful wife, Carole, and beautiful daughter, McKenna.
